Active youngsters enjoying the school holidays were able to escape the wet weather yesterday with an archery morning at Northgate Sports Centre in Ipswich.

The sessions are one of the weekly sports offerings organised by Ipswich Borough Council throughout the school holidays, with football, gymnastics, rollerskating, snorkelling and dance among those on offer this summer.

Archery has already proved a hit with youngsters, with some having already signed up for more.

A spokeswoman from the sports centre said: “It was brilliant – some people have already re-booked for next week. We run them mainly through the school holidays but [instructor] Alan Munson runs Sunday sessions.

“Once they do try it in the holidays quite often they book into the courses.”

The centre added it was important to offer more specialised sports alongside football and swimming.
