A woman was taken to hospital after a crash which closed a busy Ipswich roundabout this morning.

Suffolk police received reports of a two car crash at the junction of Vernon Street and Hawes Street on the A137 at around 9am.

The two vehicles involved, a blue Ford Fiesta and silver Citroen Xsara Picasso, needed to be recovered from the scene.

Police said the road was blocked and advised drivers to seek alternative routes, while it was cleared. It has since reopened.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) was called to treat one of the drivers.

“We received a call just before 9am today to a report of a road traffic collision on the A137 roundabout in Ipswich,” said and EEAST spokesman.

“An ambulance crew attended to a woman, believed to be in her 40s.

“She was taken to Ipswich Hospital as a precautionary measure.”
