The Framlingham star, who earlier performed Lego House to a standing ovation at a packed-out London’s 02 Arena, has picked up the Best British Male and Best British Breakthrough awards.

It caps an incredible run of success for Sheeran, who celebrated his 21st birthday last week and has had a string of top five hits and a number one selling album.

He was one of ten acts in contention for Best British Single but lost out to One Direction with their track What Makes You Beautiful.

He was also pipped to best British album by Adele’s 21.

Sheeran was up against the likes of Noel Gallagher, Coldplay, Adele, Jessie J and the hotly tipped Emeli Sande.

Sheeran has landed plenty of critical acclaim and airplay in the past year with singles such as The A Team and Lego House, as well as topping the album chart with his debut, called +.

Colchester band Blur are also re-forming for tonight’s Brits, as they receive the outstanding contribution prize at the star-studded event. The Brit pop quartet – made up of frontman Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bass player Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree – will perform five songs.

It will be the band’s first performance since a handful of 2009 shows, including a headline slot at the Glastonbury Festival.
