IPSWICH’S New Wolsey Theatre has been crowned most welcoming theatre at the annual Theatrical Management Association Theatre awards UK in London.
It recognises the theatre’s achievement in customer relations and services – both front-of-house and backstage.
“There is genuine investment in giving every audience member an experience to cherish, on and off stage,” said chairman of the New Wolsey board David Edwards.
“This award recognises and applauds the efforts of every single member of the team including our volunteer ushers. Thank you all for being the best at what you do. ”
The New Wolsey opened 12 years ago with support from Arts Council England, Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk County Council. Chief executive Sarah Holmes added: “We promised to listen and respond to our audiences. This award is confirmation we have taken this commitment to heart.
“Our immediate priority, in addition to maintaining the level of customer care we have achieved, is to improve access back-stage and make the entire building accessible to everyone.”
The theatre has just announced its spring season, which runs from January 30-May 25 and includes the world premiere of And Then The Dark, a new psychological thriller by Michael Lesslie. New season tickets go on sale from November 9.
