More than 100 artists will be displaying and selling a wide variety of work on Sunday when Felixstowe holds one of its premier annual events.
Art on the Prom is this year celebrating its tenth anniversary – and there will be a birthday theme to the decorations, workshops and entertainment.
The popular, contemporary art fair, run entirely by volunteers with sponsorship from town and district councils and local businesses, is free to the public and is taking place on the prom and in part of the Spa Gardens from 10am to 4pm.
Organiser Stephen Wyatt said: “This impressive art exhibition attracts in excess of 20,000 visitors per year who come for a stroll beside the sea and to peruse a range of original art works including sculpture, painting, drawing, glass, ceramics, photography and jewellery.
“Over 100 artists will be showcasing their work from the pier to the Spa Pavilion gardens.
“As well as the opportunity to buy original artwork, visitors will have the chance to create their own piece at the Art in the Gardens workshops.
“Adults and children alike are invited to drop in to these interactive stands run by artists.”
The event has established strong relationships with the Felixstowe’s ten schools and seven of the Special Needs schools or units in Ipswich by promoting art in schools and the community.
This year the event has also worked with the Felixstowe Seafront Gardens Project to develop a project for children to design 85 features for the new Heritage Lottery-funded trail which will be part of the refurbished gardens, and there will be a display of the work on Sunday.
Throughout the day the Restoration Ladies on stilts will be bringing colour and fun to the prom and to add to the community atmosphere musical entertainment will be provided by the Ipswich Hospital Band, Tutti Frutti Voices and The Champagne Trio.
