Ipswich charity ActivLives is launching its Garden for Older People on May 18 to raise awareness for Dementia.

The garden, at ActivLives Chantry Walled Garden, Hadleigh Road, is the result of many hours hard work by volunteers of the project and will open on May 18 at 12pm.

It has been especially designed to enable older people who may be wheelchair-bound with conditions, such as Dementia, to get active in an outdoor community setting, with opportunities to have a chat with other local people, make friends, and share their skills and ideas.

Everyday ActivGardens Development Manager Susannah Robirosa said: “We are delighted to be launching this garden to enable older people to carry on gardening. It is also a beautiful garden for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.”

Councillor Roger Fern, part of Ipswich Dementia Action Alliance, will cut the ribbon along with project volunteer designers and builders.

There will also be a plant sale as well as tea and homemade cakes available for those who come along to the opening.
