A man accused of attacking a man in an Ipswich flat has been jailed for four years.

Before Ipswich Crown Court was Michael Vincent, 46, of no fixed address, who denied aggravated burglary on October 26 2016, unlawfully wounding Asa Cook, having a knife and possessing cannabis.

He was cleared of aggravated burglary and having a knife but was convicted by a jury of unlawful wounding and possessing cannabis.

Giving evidence Vincent said he went to the flat in Post Mill Close with a youth to help him recover £750 he had paid for drugs he hadn’t received.

He denied forcing his way into the flat or attacking Mr Cook who was staying at the premises, and claimed the youth had hit Mr Cook over the head with a wrench after Mr Cook produced a knife.

It was alleged that Vincent and another man kicked the flat door open and cut Mr Cook on the arm with a knife before one of them hit him on the head with a wrench while the other produced a knife which Mr Cook grabbed.
