Ipswich Town are giving unsold pies, pasties and sausage rolls to homeless people being supported by the Salvation Army.
The new initiative was put in place for the first time after Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest, with hundreds of pounds worth of food being sent to Salvation Army’s Lyndon House in Fore Street.
“It just makes sense to do this,” said Greg Pillinger, Ipswich Town’s stadium manager at Portman Road.
“Our matchday caterers, Centerplate, agreed to the idea straightaway and we have the help of Hawk Taxis in taking the food to Lyndon House.
“We obviously have food hygiene rules to adhere to and we have had support from an environmental health officer from Ipswich Borough Council.
“It worked really well on Saturday, with pies, pasties and sausage rolls all delivered to the Salvation Army and we will continue to do the same over the rest of the season.”
