A drink-driver has been banned from the road for 17 months after being seen driving on the A14 while nearly twice the limit.

Rachael Barton, of Jubilee Crescent, Needham Market, pleaded guilty before Ipswich magistrates to driving while above the legal alcohol limit on April 15.

A breath test showed the 27-year-old had 65 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

Prosecutor Lesla Small said police were called to attend the Wild Man pub in Sproughton at 9.45pm as a female driver of a Nissan Micra was reported to have been under the influence of drink.

When officers arrived they could not find the driver. However, subsequently the car’s registration was seen by a female officer on the A14. The vehicle was being driven erratically and Barton was followed to her home.

Barton, representing herself, told the court she had consumed two glasses of wine on the day and there had been a family bereavement.

She said she had not been in the Wild Man, but had been in the Claydon Crown, before going to Ipswich to see family and then driving back through Sproughton.

In addition to her driving ban Barton was ordered to pay a total of £325 in fines and costs.
