The A12 has now reopened following the earlier collision in Colchester

A collision involving six cars blocked the A12 this morning, leaving one person trapped in their vehicle.

One lane of the London bound side of the A12 is blocked at Junction 16, the B1007 at Galleywood, because of the crash.

There is currently congestion to Junction 20a, the B1137 at Hatfield Peverel.

The vehicles involved were a silver BMW 316, a black Audi Q7, a white Toyota Yaris, a blue Fiat Panda, and two Ford Transits, one white, and one grey.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were notified of the incident at 7.37am.

Two crews, one from Great Baddow and one from Chelmsford are in attendance, using cutting equipment to free the person.

Crews completed their work at the scene by 8.19am. They used two sets of cutting equipment to release the casualty.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Police are officers are at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash.

“The collision happened at 7.30am. A number of people state minor injuries.

“A section of the northbound carriageway was closed for a short period of time while the Air Ambulance landed.”

Two ambulances, the hazardous area response team (HART), two ambulance officers and Hertfordshire Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

Steve Brant, ambulance officer for EEAST, said: “In total ambulance crews assessed seven people who had been involved in the incident. Fortunately four of them were discharged on scene.

“One man, believed to be in his 30s, was trapped in his car for about 40 minutes and HART worked alongside the fire and rescue service to help extricate him. He suffered potential neck and abdominal injuries and was taken to Broomfield Hospital by land ambulance.

“Two young boys were also taken to Broomfield by ambulance as a precaution but were not thought to be seriously hurt.

“All of the emergency services worked well together on the scene.”

The police spokesman added that the air ambulance left the scene without taking any casualties, and that the road was reopened at 11.30am.

  • You are wrong Emmy Lou the best picture title ever is the article about the 9 thefts at Playford in the star yesterday. The picture they have staged about what they think a burglar looks like is hilarious. Special forces burglar comes to mind.
