An elderly golfer died while playing a round of golf in Suffolk this morning, police have confirmed.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called to Aldeburgh Golf Club shortly after 9am following reports a man in his 80s had died on the golf course.

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary confirmed the man died at the scene.

The golfer has not been named but it is believed his next of kin have been informed.

In a statement, an East Anglian Air Ambulance spokesman said: “Anglia One landed on the Aldeburgh golf course at 9.36am this morning to a man in his eighties playing a round of golf.

“The EAAA crew of CCP Simeon Tomlinson and Gary Steward worked closely with the EEAST crew at the scene.”

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 9.06am this morning to reports that a man had collapsed in Aldeburgh.

“An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, and East Anglian Air Ambulance attended.”

His cause of death remains unknown.

Aldeburgh Golf Club have not responded to requests for further information or comment.
