A show featuring original artwork by BA (Hons) Fine Art and BA (Hons) Photography students at University Campus Suffolk (UCS) has been well received following an opening night at Prettys Solicitors in Ipswich, where the artwork is being hosted.
The Trafalgar exhibition, featuring a diverse body of work with many pieces featured having a nautical theme, officially opened on Monday 9 December 9.
Guests enjoyed a lively evening and were able to view 80 intriguing works of sculpture, drawing, painting and photography. Ten percent of works sold on the opening night, with many of the talented artists showcased on hand to discuss their work.
Guests included Prettys Partner and CEO Paul Dickie, UCS Provost and Chief Executive Richard Lister, and the Mayor of Ipswich, Hamil Clarke MBE with Mayoress, Daisy Weekes.
The event was well attended and Charlotte Chantry of Prettys said: “We filled Elm House to the brim, it was a very successful and enjoyable evening.”
Photography student Mark Mann was the winner of the Best in Show prize, selected by Prettys’ staff, for one in his series of eye-catching photographs entitled ‘Rorschach’.
The work of artist Alexander Osborne also attracted much interest at Trafalgar, as well as at previous shows. Alex was taken seriously ill whilst helping prepare the show but the event went ahead with the blessing of his parents and all at Prettys and UCS would like to take this opportunity to wish Alex a speedy recovery.
Trafalgar is the fifth collaboration between sponsor Prettys and UCS student artists. Curator Tom Owens said: “Trafalgar has put the ‘Art at Prettys’ shows most definitely on the map.”
Artwork will remain on display at Prettys’ private offices until the sixth exhibition opens in spring 2014. The art will continue to be for sale throughout the exhibition and members of the public may view artwork at www.ucsstudents.wix.com/artatprettys
