Beekeeper Michael Coe said he was “absolutely thrilled” after scooping the East of England Co-op’s coveted Producer of the Year title last night.
The Essex county winner, who started his honey business, Great Tilkey Honey, from scratch, was on a steep learning curve after deciding to start up a few years ago.
He started supplying the retailer in 2012, and was supported by it as he learnt the ropes - from bar coding to marketing his product.
“This award means so much to us,” he said. “We are so proud of our small cottage industry - and how far we have come in such a short time. We love our bees and this will bring the bees and the wonderful work they do in producing our delicious 100% natural product to the forefront. We would like to thank every one who voted for us - and the three judges - who it was a pleasure to meet. The East of England Co-op have been fantastic - and really worked with us to grow our business - and we are really grateful.
