POLICE are investigating a spate of bicycle thefts at a key Suffolk tourist attraction.

The most recent string of incidents comes in the wake of an ongoing issue with bike thieves who have plagued Center Parcs in Elveden.

Earlier this year, the holiday resort got its own dedicated police worker as part of a crackdown on crime there.

However police have this week released details of six incidents of bike theft which have happened in recent days, four of which are thought to have been carried out by the same people.

Police are linking the thefts of two Specialized Hardrock bikes, a grey man’s Giant bike, a Cube mountain bike and the wheels from a man’s bike, all of which happened on Saturday night.

Then, on Monday night, two Scott mountain bikes were taken from outside separate villas and two further incidents on Tuesday in which a Marin and a Trek mountain bike were stolen at the holiday centre.

The thefts are the latest in a string of incidents dating back to before 2008.

Since then scores of holiday makers have been either burgled or had their bicycles stolen.

The total value of items taken in the past two years alone is more than £270,000.

The appointment of the resort’s police community support officer Suzanne Ashford was announced earlier this year.

Her role is being jointly funded by Suffolk police and Center Parcs and is part of a raft of measures aimed at ramping up security.

These measures have included improvements to the site’s fence and providing advice to guests.

Miss Ashford is based at the site in Elveden Forest along with a staff cycle patrol team to stop the thieves in their tracks.
