Bikers ride off in to the sunshine

FOOTBALL wasn't enough to keep more than 500 die-hard bikers away from their annual charity ride through Suffolk.

Chairman of the Copdock Motorcycle Club, Roger Taylor, said: "For motorbike fans, their bikes take priority over the World Cup.

Riders from as far afield as north London and Buckinghamshire made up the impressive convoy from the Washbrook Services to Benhall, all under a police escort.

Inspector Mike Hinshelwood, who reported no trouble said, said: "In previous years we have had calls from members of the public fearing they were being taken over by Hells Angels. But it's a peaceful and well-organised event."

And a money-spinner for local charities including the East Anglian Children's Hospice. The club has raised more than £100,000 in the last ten years.

First timer Guy Coulson from Leiston who rides a Suzuki 650, said: "It's a great day for it. It's nice to get away from the football."
