Hairdos and makeup from eras including the 1940s and 1980s have been recreated by students showcasing their work at West Suffolk College.

The annual Hair and Beauty Showcase took place yesterday at the campus off Out Risbygate, Bury St Edmunds. The competitions for the groups ran throughout the day and were followed by a final parade for parents and employers. This year’s theme was hair and beauty through the eras.

Tracey Marshall, head of school of hairdressing, beauty and holistic therapies at West Suffolk College, said: “I’m very impressed with the quality. It’s a very exciting event for the students. It’s just lovely to see them showcasing their work.” She said NVQ Level 3 beauty therapy students created “amazing and exotic” body art inspired by burlesque and NVQ Level 2 hairdressing students produced smooth, sleek hair in striking colours inspired by the 1940s. L’Oréal artists showcased styling, colouring and cutting techniques.
