The second-biggest home crowd of the year of 540 looked on as the Blues slipped to an unfortunate 2-1 defeat against Maidstone United.

But there was just as much entertainment off the pitch, with the club’s annual Ladies Day offer attracting plenty of people that might not normally sample the Ryman League Premier Division on a Saturday afternoon, while the club enjoyed a good weekend behind the bar with its three-day East Anglian Beer Festival, which ran from Friday to Sunday.

Club chairman Russell Ward said: “It’s about opening the club up. Obviously the primary part is the football club, but we’re a social club as well and we want to see more of that.

“Overall we’ve got to be happy with how the day went.”

Mr Ward added the club is aiming to hold at least one club event per month. Events over the coming months include a summer ball and golf day.
