A man charged with attempting to abduct a child from a primary school in Bury St Edmunds has been remanded in custody.

The first hearing of Steven Fidler’s case was heard at West Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

Fidler was charged by police on Wednesday following an alleged incident at Hardwick Primary School in Steward Road, Bury St Edmunds.

The allegation is said to have occurred on Tuesday.

In addition to the charge of trying to abduct a child, the 36-year –old, of Caie Walk, Bury St Edmunds, is also charged with assaulting a police constable.

No plea was entered on behalf of Fidler during Thursday’s hearing before the town’s magistrates.

Fidler was remanded in custody until the next hearing of his case.

He is now due to appear before West Suffolk Magistrates Court on Thursday.
