Brewing giant Greene King has invested £750,000 in a new innovation brewhouse at its base in Bury St Edmunds.
The facility will allow the company to experiment with a range of new ingredients, yeasts, styles and flavours to create more “craft” beer styles.
A small packaging area, designed to produce all formats for both the on-trade and off-trade, will also form part of the new brewhouse, to be launched later this year.
Early Sunday morning, a huge crane lowered some of the machinery for the new brewhouse into Greene King’s building in Westgate Street.
Chris Houlton, managing director of Greene King Brewing and Brands, said the company was determined to capitalise on sales growth by offering even greater choice to customers and consumers.
He also believes the new brewhouse will give his team a chance to further demonstrate their flair, creativity and brewing credentials.
He said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for the business; the new brewery is a perfect opportunity for us to experiment and to showcase our brewing expertise.
“We are listening to our customers and investing in innovation.
“It is also a real chance to put into practice some of the ideas we have had before but until now have not been able to turn into reality.
“It is the start of an exciting new chapter for our business.”
The facility is due to open on November 20 with the first beers crafted expected to be available from early next year.
