Creditors of Bowmans (Ipswich) Ltd, which runs Bowmans Bar and Lounge on the corner of Falcon Street and Queen Street, will be asked to approve resolutions for the winding up of the company and the appointment of liquidators at a meeting on November 23.

A creditors meeting is also due to take place on the same day in respect of Primasol Ltd, which trades as Bowmans Club from an adjoining site.

Andrew Kelsall and Lee Green from the Norwich office of regional accountancy firm Larking Gowen have been nominated as liquidators.

Both creditors’ meetings, which were announced in a notice in the London Gazette, an official Government journal of record, will be conducted on a “virtual” basis by telephone.

The directors are required by the Insolvency Act to send creditors statements on the affairs of the two companies and the nominated liquidators, who are both qualified insolvency practitioners, will also provide such information as creditors “may reasonably require” ahead of the meetings.

A public house is known to have stood on the site since at least the 18th Century and for most of its history has been known as The Falcon. Since the turn of the current century it has also operated as the Tonic Bar and Lounge and Pl@tinum.

As the Falcon, the pub was operated for many years by pubs group Punch. Its current identity, under which is has operated since 2010, is derived from the Bowman family who ran the Falcon, and a brewery based on the same site, for many years until the middle of the 19th Century.

According to reports in the Ipswich Journal in 1854, quoted on Suffolk Camra’s website, the Falcon Brewery owned not only the adjoining pub but also the Ipswich Arms in London Road and the Elephant & Castle in Handford Road, as well as the Crown in Whitton, the Boot Inn at Freston, the Falcon in Hadleigh and the Tuns Inn at Needham Market.

Companies House lists the directors of both Bowmans (Ipswich) Ltd and Primasol Ltd as Christopher Mark Pooley and Miles Christopher Savage.
