Ipswich-based IT and Telecoms experts QDOS Communications plays an important role as new £50m luxury Cambridge Hotel - The Tamburlaine - launches.
QDOS were appointed by the Dublin based O’Callaghan Hotel Group to provide a complete IT Infrastructure and telephony solution for the new bespoke 155-bedroom hotel in Cambridge’s vibrant city centre.
The hotel is the first site O’Callaghan have developed in England and their aim was for it to be “different to anything they’ve ever done before and different from anything else that’s available in Cambridge”.
They seemed to have fulfilled that vision.
The four star hoteld was launched last month.
It has a dramatic double-height lobby, feature staircase and overlooking library. The ground floor presents four different food and drink areas all with their own unique offering, along with five conference rooms to attract the corporate market.
As a new development, the hotel required a complete and totally future-proof IT infrastructure and telephone system to meet the high expectations of the discerning modern traveller.
With 24 years of experience in the design, implementation and support of Telecoms, IT and internet technology solutions to the hospitality industry QDOS rose to the challenge.
The QDOS project management team oversaw installation of a Mitel MiVoice Telephone System with a hospitality interface.
The telephone systems provides back office staff with rich communications applications and services on the desktop, whilst the Wireless Phones are perfect for users who need to accessible throughout the hotel. For conference delegates an easy to use phone system has been installed with superior audio quality plus the ability for conference delegates to seamlessly share ideas and files with in-room presentation display capabilities.
In addition, QDOS supplied and installed Desktop Mini PC’s, Business Laptops, a Core Server and Back Up Domain Server facilitating Hyper-V virtualisation. Hyper-V offers the hotel a scalable creation of a virtual (rather than physical) version of an IT environment, managing the hotels IT hardware resources so they are distributed efficiently among virtual machines.
Post completion, QDOS operates an automated monitoring and alert service notifying the ICT Helpdesk about backup and performance issues before there’s an operational impact. With complete visibility of the hotel’ virtual and backup IT infrastructures through powerful and easy-to-use monitoring and reporting tools, QDOS is able to provide the hotel with a prompt and professional maintenance support service on a 24/7 x 365 basis.
Simon Catterick, chief executive, QDOS Communications Ltd said: “Good communication is at the heart of every successful hotel. We know that when dealing with guests, little things matter, like greeting guests by name, managing their privacy and ensuring guest services are delivered in a timely manner. QDOS’ experience in the hospitality sector enabled us to deliver a future-proof IT infrastructure and telephone system for the Tamburlaine team to manage guest experience with a minimum of fuss.”
