Vandals cause damage at schools

Staff at Claydon Primary School have said they are “disappointed” by an act of wanton vandalism which has resulted in thousands of pounds of damage.

Police are investigating after the school in Lancaster Way was broken into on Sunday. The vandal or vandals damaged lighting, a wooden fence, windows and a fire door.

Head teachers Mary Ashcroft and Gary Pilkington said: “We are disappointed that such an act of vandalism has occurred for no obvious reason. Whilst nothing appears to have been stolen, it has resulted in thousands of pounds worth of damage to the exterior of the school.

“Many of our children have been upset about the incident and there has been an element of disruption to their routines today. We have been overwhelmed by the support of our local community - parents, grandparents, staff and our neighbours at Claydon High School have rallied to clean inside and out to enable the school to get back to ‘normal’.”

Police are also appealing for witnesses after damage was caused at Claydon High School between Sunday and this morning. Police say an offender damaged a trailer, plastic signs and telephone cabling.

Sarah Skinner, head teacher at Claydon High School, said the damage was reported as a matter of course and the school weren’t assuming it to be criminal damage.

Anyone with information relating to these crimes should contact Sgt Kieron Pederick from Mid Suffolk South SNT on 101 quoting ST/14/1857 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
