Detectives are appealing for information following a burglary in Colchester which has left a woman shocked and angry.
The break-in happened when a thief entered through an unlocked back door of a house on Alanbrooke Road at dawn on Saturday and stole a handbag, three mobile telephones and a quantity of cash.
The handbag and a purse were recovered a few metres away.
Investigating Officer, DC Peter Gartland, said: “We believe this burglar was on foot and so would have been spotted walking or running along either Rowhedge Road or Fingringhoe Road.
“We believe this may have been between 6-8am so those people out walking their dog, out for a jog, those driving to work or those returning home from a night shift are all potential witnesses.
“If they saw a man looking suspicious or out of place in this area, then we need to hear from them.”
He added: “The female owner is shocked that she has fallen foul of a burglar and now understands why we urge people to lock their doors. She is also angry that someone has taken advantage of this lapse in concentration and invaded her family home.”
Anyone with information in connection with this burglary is urged to contact detectives at Colchester police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
