A WOMAN was grabbed from behind by two men as they attempted to rob her outside a Post Office in Colchester today.
Police officers are appealing for help with their inquiries into the incident which happened at about 8.30am in Hunwicke Road.
A 48-year-old woman was walking towards the shops in Hunwicke Road when the men grabbed her, pulling her backwards.
She fell over and after hearing her shouting, a member of the public came to her aid.
The two suspects ran off empty handed.
They are described as both white, aged between 18 and 25, of average height and both were wearing dark tracksuits, one with a beanie hat and hood, the other with a grey scarf.
A spokesman for Essex police said the woman suffered bruising and a small cut, but did not need hospital treatment.
Officers are today reviewing CCTV footage in the area. They are asking anyone who may know the identity of these men to come forward and help with the investigation.
Dc Pete Coley said: “I would like to express my thanks to the member of the public who assisted the woman, without his intervention the victim could have been more seriously injured and would have been robbed. I am hopeful that with the help of local people these violent individuals can be quickly identified.”
Information can be passed to Dc Coley at Colchester CID on 101, ext 420162 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 55511.
