The crash happened in Berechurch Hall Road, Colchester, at about 10.40am and involved a green Peugeot and a white transit van.

A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said the car had left the road and gone into a ditch, turning on its side and trapping a woman in her 30s.

Crews stabilised the vehicle and used specialist cutting equipment to remove the roof. The woman was released by 11.51am.

A spokesman for Essex Police said a female had received minor injuries, adding the road was closed for some time.
