A man and a woman arrested in connection with the murder of James Attfield have been given police bail.
A 27-year-old man from Colchester was arrested in connection with the murder yesterday. He and a 27-year-old woman, also from the town, are now on police bail until Friday, May 9, pending further enquiries.
Mr Attfield was found seriously injured with more than 100 stab wounds in Castle Park off Guildford Road shortly before 6am on March 29. He died a short time later at the scene.
Officers are piecing together the 33-year-old student’s movements between 10pm on the night before the alleged attack when he left the River Lodge Public House and the time when he was found injured. They are also attempting to identify three people depicted in e-fits and a number of people caught on CCTV who they need to eliminate from their enquiries.
They have now identified the man in image number 10 and spoken to him.
As the one-month anniversary of the murder of a man in Colchester approaches, detectives are renewing their appeal for information, especially the identities of several people captured on CCTV.
There is a reward of up to £5,000 on offer for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person, or persons, responsible.
Officers are also still trying to trace a couple who were seen sitting on a bench in Lower Castle Park close to the lake at 11.30pm on Friday, March 28. The man is described as white, of stocky build and appears tall with long legs. The only description of the woman is that she is white. They were sitting at opposite ends of the bench and it is not certain if they know each other.
Approximately 10 metres away from where this couple were sat, there was also a man sat on the grass who was white, aged in his 30s and was wearing a dark jacket and possibly jeans. This may, or may not, have been James Attfield.
Anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
