An 83-year-old Ipswich man who groped a dementia sufferer’s breast at a care home in the town has been given a conditional discharge.
Gerald Cutting was seen by staff to massage the woman’s breast while the zip of his trousers was undone, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Cutting, of Westbourne Road, admitted causing or inciting a woman with a mental disorder to engage in sexual activity in July last year.
He was given a 12-month conditional discharge, ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for 12 months and made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order banning him from having unsupervised contact with any vulnerable adult.
Judge Rupert Overbury said being involved in the criminal justice system at the age of 83 was punishment for the defendant.
Andrew Thompson, for Cutting, urged the court not to send his client to prison.
