An enraged cyclist has knocked a lorry driver unconscious in Copdock in a bout of road rage.

Police are appealing for help in relation to the attack in the village of Copdock.

Between 10.15am and 10.45am today, Tuesday, February 4 a driver of a heavy goods vehicle was travelling along Elm Lane in the village.

The driver pulled over to allow for a car that was approaching in the opposite direction. At this point he noticed a push bike coming up behind him; concerned that the cyclist may not have seen the car coming he held his arm out of the window and flagged the bike down.

At this point the cyclist became verbally abusive to the lorry driver telling him shouldn’t be on such a narrow lane. The driver briefly got out of his lorry and spoke to the cyclist before returning to his cab.

When he returned to his lorry the cyclist came up behind him and swung the cab door into the side of the lorry driver’s head causing him to lose consciousness and fall to the ground. The cyclist then rode off.

The 48-year-old male lorry driver came round and carried on his journey but became unwell a short while later and was taken to Ipswich Hospital to be treated for concussion.

A witness has been spoken to, but police are keen to hear from the cyclist himself or anyone who saw him or recognises him from the description.

He is described as a white male, of stocky build aged in his late 30s/ early 40s, he was between 5’8” and 5’10” tall and wore a light, or white top, a cycle helmet, sunglasses, white headphones and cycling attire.

If you have any information in relation to this incident or recognise the man from the description you are asked to call PC Darren Dawson at Suffolk Police Headquarters Roads Policing and Firearms Operations Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
