Debenham High School student Calvin Coe, who has never missed a day of education and got 12A*s, says hard work played a major part in his success.

Not only has the 16-year-old from nearby Aspall been studying hard but he has also been devoting himself to his swimming.

He spends 10 hours a week in the pool training for regional and county competitions.

Now after getting the top grades plus one A he has set his sights on a career using science. He said: “I was hoping for good results but I do not know if I was expecting to get them.

“I worked very hard for them but I’m not really sure what I want to do, but it will be something with science, maybe chemistry.”

Next month he will start at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham studying A-levels in maths, further maths, chemistry, biology and history.

Speaking about his remarkable record of never missing a school day, he said: “I have not had any critical illnesses which has helped, I guess you just have to keep going when you are ill.

“I swim a lot which might help me fight off infections. There’s obviously been days when I have thought about not going to school but with a little bit of determination I’ve have just done the work.”

As well as the core subjects Calvin took further maths, French, Spanish, history and PE for his GCSEs.
