THE region’s trains are undergoing a major spring clean.
Greater Anglia said extra staff had been brought in to carry out a deep-clean of carpets, seats, ceilings, floors and toilet facilities on all 321 carriages they operate. Every train exterior will also be washed by hand.
This work commenced in mid-February and sees one train deep-cleaned per day.
Greater Anglia’s head of rrain presentation, Peter Tyler, said: “Providing a clean, pleasant travelling environment for our customers is extremely important to us and one of our key franchise commitments, demonstrating our determination to make a real difference for our customers.”

This is part of a contractual agreement made by GA in the tender process when they were handed the franchise by the Govt. Complying with the contract is hardly an act of selfless generosity...

About time too! On my most recent train journey I took from Elmswell to Cambridge a few weeks ago I saw dried chewing gum stuck to a window, liquid soiled seats and goodness knows what was embedded into the "carpet" flooring. The female conductor was accompanied by a grim looking 15-stone "enforcement officer" in a hi-vis vest! That says it all. The franchise operators are there to maximise revenue. If the conductor was accompanied by a person with a sanitiser spray or a vacuum cleaner that would have sent a very different message about the operator's goals.

How do you "deep clean" metal and glass? What's the difference between a "deep clean" and a thorough clean?
