East Anglia has “turned a corner”, a survey suggests.

Manufacturers in East Anglia reported a good start to the year with orders and employment on the way up, according to the latest quarterly Manufacturing Outlook survey by EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, and accountancy and business advisory firm, BDO LLP. The data reveals that manufacturers in East Anglia are confident that the reported UK recovery is firmly taking root in the region.

BDO, EEF and Barclays held a series of regional manufacturing conferences including in Ipswich, highlighting the improving business and economic climate, the main issues that affect manufacturing business in East Anglia, as well as discussing the findings of the latest Manufacturing Outlook survey.

In the first three months of this year, firms in East Anglia saw improving trading conditions relative to the previous quarter. Total orders and employment increased on balance, resulting in mounting confidence. The findings suggest East Anglia is keeping up with the rest of the UK where the recovery is well under way.

Jim Davison, EEF East of England region director, says: “This is the most positive set of indicators we have seen for a long time. Here in East Anglia it looks like we’ve turned a corner and are actively heading down the right road.”
