Voters went to the polls in by-elections for Mid Suffolk and Babergh district councils on Thursday.

There were also by-elections at Stowmarket Town Council and Long Melford Parish Council.

Mid Suffolk, Stowmarket North Ward: Barry Humphreys, (C) 707 votes, Stephen Searle, (UKIP) 616, Nigel Rozier (Green Party) 444, Anthony Elliott (L) 315 votes, Nicholas Willshere (LD) 144. Maj 91. Turnout 29.63%. No change (Frank Whittle defected to UKIP after being voted in for the Conservatives.)

Stowmarket Town Council, Stowmarket (North) Ward: Nicholas Gowrley (C) 884, John Betts-Davies (G) 835, Paul Ekpenyong (I) 284, Brijinder Sharma (LD) 183. Maj 49. Turnout 29.6%. (Frank Whittle defected to UKIP after being voted in for the Conservatives.)

Babergh, South Cosford Ward: Robert Lindsay, (G) 346, David Talbot Clarke (C) 330, Stephen Laing (UKIP) 219, Angela Wiltshire (L) 72. Maj 16. Turnout 54.7%.

Long Melford Parish Council: Paul Moreton 664, Flavia Popescu-Richardson, 376 votes. Turnout 36.55%.
