Essex: Man re-arrested in James Attfield murder probe

A teenager has been re-arrested by detectives investigating the murder of James Attfield

The 18-year-old man, of no fixed address, was one of seven arrested last Thursday in connection with the murder.

He was released on bail the next day, but last night was re-arrested in Southend. He is currently being questioned by detectives at an Essex police station.

Mr Attfield, 33, was found with 102 stab wounds in the early hours of Saturday March 29 close to Colchester’s Lower Castle Park.

Efforts to resuscitate him failed and he was declared dead at the scene.

A 25-year-old-woman from Southend is on bail until September 15, while four other people also arrested on suspicion of murder - a 57-year-old man a 31-year-old man, a 27-year-old and a 27-year-old woman, all from Colchester, have been bailed until September 24.

A 23-year old-woman from Ipswich arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice is also on bail until September 15.

Two other men, both aged 33 and of no fixed address, remain on police bail pending further enquiries until Wednesday, September 17, having also been arrested in connection with James Attfield’s murder.
