It has been reported someone in Essex cashed in on last night’s 7-1 thrashing of Brazil by Germany in the World Cup.

A story on the Telegraph’s website claims the lucky punter took a fancy to the 500/1 odds for predicting the astonishing score.

And after sticking a fiver on the result the gambler was able to pocket a handy £2,505 at the final whistle.

Other astute betters were rubbing their hands with glee after correctly predicting the 5-0 half-time score.

Five of the goals were scored in a 19 minute period in the first half, the sixth and seventh being added after the break.

It was the first time a team had hit seven goals past their opponents in a World Cup semi-final and Brazil’s biggest ever defeat in the competition. Previously it had been only 3-0 against France.
