Thames Coastguard station organised rescues for several vessels along the coastline yesterday.

At 4.50am the watch received a 999 call from a man in his 50s who was on a yacht morred at Tollesbury, saying he had suffered chest pains over night.

After advice from a doctor the West Mersea lifeboat took ghim from his yacht to Mersea Island, where he was met by the island’s coastguard team and paramedics and taken to hospital.

At 5.17 coastguard officers tasked the Clacton lifeboat to help two people on board the fishing boat Discovery which had broken down off Colne Point near Brightlingsea.

The lifeboat towed the vessel back to shore.

In the afternoon 1310 Thames Coastguard was advised by the Felixstowe ferry harbour master he was going to help a large Dutch yacht aground on the Deben Bar.

The Felixstowe Volunteer Coast Patrol Rescue Service boat Guardian also stood by until the vessel was towed into deeper water.
