This week we have found pictures of the Bucklesham Players production of Mother Goose, a St Johns Ambulance exercise at the Civic Centre and Orwell High School’s venture week. Along with these we also found images of the Orwell High School basketball team, the Boys‘ Brigade football team and people at the old time music hall in Felixstowe.

Meanwhile, we have heard from Ipswich Star reader Tanya Allen following publication of the televisions picture from 1974.

She writes: “This picture is of my mum, dad, and uncle. My dad is front left, my mum front right, and my uncle in the middle at the back. “My mum and dad have now been married for 35 years. Their names are David and Leigh Allen, and my uncle’s name is Roy Cattle. “This was the picture of them buying TVs for 1p, staying overnight in the doorway of Avis Cooks at the front of the queue for the opening the next morning.

“In this picture my dad David was 17 years old, my mum Leigh was 15 years old (and still at school). My uncle Roy was also 17 years old. My mum and dad have been together since 1973.”

We’ve also heard from Valerie Mather, of Queensdale Close, Ipswich, who recalls a picture from 1973.

She writes: “This picture is a presentation at Whitton Division, St John Ambulance. The division was founded after the war in the 1940s by Mr Gravenell, Mrs A Proud and Miss Violet Hare (who was my aunt). Sadly they have all passed away, as have many people in the picture.

“I cannot bring to mind all the names, but will tell you some…Dick Bloomfield, Pat Clarke, Geoff Thorpe, John Robbins, Ron Barrett, Valerie Mather (me), Mrs Bell (county commissioner), Yvonne Wright, Dorothy Wythe, Edna Gooderham, Violet Hare.

“Meetings were held on Tuesday evenings at Castle Hill Community Centre.”
