ANGRY beach hut owners and chalet tenants in the resort today vowed they would not give in despite being told there would be no review of a controversial rent rise.

Scores of people packed into Cotman Hall this morning for a meeting where Suffolk Coastal council leader Ray Herring spoke with owners and tenants about the issue.

Beach hut owners are facing a 12% rise while the rise for chalets will be by 20%.

Cllr Herring said: “We are not going to review the charges, we have made that decision.”

A petition was also signed at the meeting and there are now plans to set up an association for beach hut owners to raise issues with the council.

Barbara Grace, a beach hut owner who is threatening to saw a chunk off her beach hut to avoid a big rise, said: “We are not settling for this – it is not going to happen.

“I think everyone is going to stick together.”

Cllr Herring added: “A beach hut owners association would be very useful and I think it is a very positive position.”
