THE man arrested in America 19 years after a £1.1million theft will face trial in March, a judge decided today.

Eddie Maher, 57, appeared at the Old Bailey by video-link from Belmarsh Prison in south east London.

The defence applied for the trial to be moved from February 18 to March 4 next year at Ipswich Crown Court.

Mr Justice Fulford allowed the application and remanded Maher in custody.

Maher is charged with stealing £1,172,500 while working for Securicor in 1993.

He disappeared with the money in a security van in which he had been waiting outside Lloyds Bank in Hamilton Road, Felixstowe.

The van was later found empty and abandoned.
