THE man arrested in America 19 years after a £1.1million theft will face trial in March, a judge decided today.

Eddie Maher, 57, appeared at the Old Bailey by video-link from Belmarsh Prison in south east London.

The defence applied for the trial to be moved from February 18 to March 4 next year at Ipswich Crown Court.

Mr Justice Fulford allowed the application and remanded Maher in custody.

Maher is charged with stealing £1,172,500 while working for Securicor in 1993.

He disappeared with the money in a security van in which he had been waiting outside Lloyds Bank in Hamilton Road, Felixstowe.

The van was later found empty and abandoned.

Maher was arrested in February in Ozark, Missouri in the US, where he was working for a cable company.

The father-of-three returned voluntarily to the England on July 10.
