A Felixstowe woman who was hoping to spend a pleasant evening reminiscing with former classmates at the old Orwell High School said the unruly behaviour of a few guests ruined the night for her.

The 45-year-old took up an invitation to visit Felixstowe Academy, formerly Orwell High School, last night before the current students move into their home and the old school is demolished.

She said: “I went along to see the school one last time. I met up with old friends and I saw two of my old teachers and had a photo taken with one, because he was always my favourite.”

But a small minority of the grown-ups decided to turn back the years and reverted to rebellious behaviour.

A mixed group of former students - of all ages - deliberately and repeatedly set off fire alarms, scrawled graffiti on walls and desks and were caught smoking in the toilets.

The woman admitted that she wrote her name on the wall, and said: “I did write my name, and it was tiny but I was only following suit, by that point it was everywhere.

“I feel bad for my actions now.”

However, she reiterated that she did not see anything rude or offensive. She said: “I didn’t see any nastiness.”

The woman said she left at 7.15pm, just after the fire alarms had sounded.

“The alarms were going off but no-one seemed to be moving. There were a lot of people there, and no-one was taking any notice.

“I went outside and was picked up.”

She continued: “I feel it was a silly time to do this, they should have invited everyone back once the children had moved into the new building, then they could have handed everyone pens and let them do what they wanted because it wouldn’t matter.

“This has ruined what was a lovely evening.”

Other readers have complained the event caused congestion in the roads surrounding the school.
