A 70-year-old man who was seen attempting to swim to a yacht near the Port of Felixstowe has been taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia and exhaustion.
The man was spotted at about 6.30pm on Wednesday and Thames Coastguard sent the Harwich RNLI Inshore Lifeboat and the Felixstowe Coastguard Team to help him.
A spokesman for Thames Coastguard said he appeared to be swimming to his own yacht, which was unattended and had run aground.
Members of the lifeboat team rescued the man from the water and he was then taken to hospital.
His current condition is not known.
