Youngsters at a session at Level Two in Felixstowe - the youth project is creating a new new "youth hub" in the town centre and moving back into its old premises.

YOUNG people in Felixstowe received a big boost today – with news that the resort’s premier youth project is returning to the town centre.

Level Two is moving back into its old home above Tesco to create a new Youth Hub with after-school and evening sessions, plus new schemes to help those moving from primary to high school, and closer working with 16s to 25s.

The project, which works with hundreds of young people every year, was forced to vacate the site in Hamilton Road two years ago after it hit funding problems.

It moved to Walton House, Walton High Street, with its open sessions at the Community Education Centre.

Project Manager Shez Southernwood said the move back to the town centre was “hugely exciting”.

“We hope it will bring with it a surge of life to the town. My head is buzzing with ideas and new initiatives,” she said.

“Level Two and the work and opportunities it offers to young people of our town is such an asset.

“Having our building will allow more great opportunities for the young people of our town.

“We hope that everyone in the town comes onboard to support us, and that the wider community of Felixstowe realises what an asset it is to have Level Two back in a town centre location.”

The project – which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year – will run sessions on Wednesdays for Year 7s from 3.15pm to 4.45pm, Thursdays for Year 8s from 7pm to 8.30pm, and Fridays for Year 9-plus from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Young people will be able to enjoy a range of activities, including Wii, Play-Station, pool, table football, table tennis, arts and craft, music and more, tuck shop, chill out area, and games room.

Qualified youth workers will be on hand to assist with any specific issues, and signpost to other agencies if necessary.

■ Shez Southernwood will be at the centre above Tesco from 10am to noon on Saturday if anyone would like to find out more about the project. People are also needed to help prepare the centre and help financially – call 01394 272521 for more details.
