PARENTS in Felixstowe have leapt to the defence of a children’s day nursery which was handed a critical Ofsted report.

Play Pit Day Nursery was branded ‘inadequate’ by inspectors last month after a member of staff was found not to have appropriate criminal record checks.

It emerged the member of staff in question did hold a check but it was not transferrable when they started at the nursery in Brownlow Road.

Writing on the Star’s website, parents of children at the nursery said they had nothing but praise for the facility.

One reader wrote: “We have never had any issues and find the staff very accommodating – even at very short notice. We have been fully informed of the findings from Ofsted, provided with a copy of the report and it does not change anything for us.”

Another parent added: “I have to say that my son goes to this nursery and I have had no issues. My son has great manners and is always in good spirits when I collect him.”

The nursery was given a good rating for its work with the Early Year’s Foundation stage, but the overall inadequate rating means the inspectors will return within 12 months.

A spokeswoman for the nursery said: “We are confident on Ofsted’s next visit that we will receive a good rating.”

All members of staff at the nursery are now fully CRB checked.
