A kite surfer got into difficulty off the Suffolk coast yesterday after becoming detached from his board and was unable to return to shore.
Thames Coastguard received a “panicked” call from the surfer’s wife at around 1.10pm stating he was in trouble some distance from Felixstowe beach.
“The person had become detached from his board and was holding on to the kite in the water,” a spokesman for Thames Coastguard said.
“He was drifting about and could not get back to shore.”
Coastguard officers from Felixstowe together with the RNLI’s inshore lifeboat from Harwich were sent to recover the man.
He was taken on board the onshore lifeboat by 1.35pm and returned to shore unhurt shortly after.
“He was found to be fit and well and did not require any treatment,” the spokesman added.
The fault was later attributed to a problem with the kite surfer’s foot strap.
