LANDGUARD Fort, Manning’s, Martello Towers – Felixstowe is filled with places known across the county.
But here is one landmark you may not be too familiar with – The Great Pyramid of Felixstowe!
This mound of sand which, on a smaller scale resembles some of Egypt’s famous pyramids, has suddenly sprung up on the beach where work is currently taking place on the sea defences.
But unlike some of Egypt’s greatest structures, the resort’s own pyramid is not expected to stick around for too long.
The mound has been made by workers who are digging ditches where new rock groynes will be put in place and it is thought the sand will then be spread elsewhere.
But that couldn’t stop holidaymakers and families enjoying the sight including John and Diane Carnall, of Ipswich, who were spending the day in the resort. Diane said: “We said it looked like a pyramid when we saw it.”

Oh dear! Great pyramid? Pile of sand actually. All the story tells is of the sad decline of the Star.
