FELIXSTOWE: A crack-cocaine and heroin dealer arrested during an armed police swoop is behind bars today.
David Navarro was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court to a total of three years and eight months in a young offenders’ institution.
The 21-year-old had previously guilty to possession of class A drugs with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property.
Navarro was arrested on September 29 last year in Cage Lane, Felixstowe.
However, earlier in the year he was one of four people to be detained when police raided a property in Runnacles Way and found a gun at the address.
The February 2 raid occurred as part of an inquiry into an armed robbery on Ladbrokes bookmakers in Undercliff Road West in November 2010.
Although Navarro was arrested, he was never charged in connection with any offence in relation to that inquiry.
His downfall came as a result of his arrest at Cage Lane seven months later, which was to lead to his conviction for drug and money-laundering offences.
Firearms police from the Territorial Support team and drug squad officers went into a property and detained two people. While inside they also discovered some class A drugs.
As they were searching the premises another man approached the address who matched the description of someone who was wanted by police.
Navarro was arrested and search warrants were carried out at an address in London, and St Edmund’s House hostel in Arwela Road, Felixstowe, where he was staying.
A large quantity of crack-cocaine and heroin was reported to have been discovered during those searches.
After Navarro, of Handsworth Road, north London, was sentenced, police said they would continue to actively target dealers.
Detective Sergeant Darren Bruce, based at Ipswich police station, said: “I believe the sentence given to Mr Navarro sends out a strong message and shows how seriously the court took this matter.
“Suffolk police will not tolerate drug dealing in the county and will continue to target anyone suspected of carrying out this sort of activity.
“I would urge anyone with information about drug dealing to contact police on 101 or alternatively to telephone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
