A CARE home resident has her eyes set on breaking into the top 40 record charts, to raise funds for a good cause.

Elsie Shaw, 90, of The Firs Care Home, has joined a singing project organised by care home provider Anchor. Last week, a group of residents from Ipswich and Felixstowe met at the home in Grange Road, Felixstowe, to rehearse their song, See Yourself, which will soon be recorded and released to the public.

Elsie, who has lived at the Firs for two years, said: “The song is so powerful because the words reflect the life experiences of older people across the country.

“I hope lots of people buy the record because it’s a true celebration of older people’s achievements.”

The lyrics of the song were written by Anchor wellbeing manager Carl Martin and were inspired by the answers to questionnaires sent to care home residents across the country.

The funds raised from the song will be donated to Contact the Elderly, which aims to combat the isolation people over 75 often face when living alone.

Elsie added: “It should hopefully raise lots of money for Contact the Elderly which is such a worthwhile cause.

“We’ve got a few weeks of rehearsals before we look to record the song.

“We’ve invited people living in Anchor properties across the region to take part so it’s going to be fun.”

Keith Arscott, director at Contact the Elderly, added: “We are extremely grateful to Anchor and can’t wait for the single to be released.

“The money raised will be invaluable in helping us to extend our vital lifeline of friendship to more isolated older people.”
