Two former East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star journalists have written a book about the exploits of Eddie Maher.
Entitled Fast Eddie, Mark Bulstrode and Grant Sherlock’s book comprehensively covers the story of the security guard who nearly got away with stealing almost £1.2m in Felixstowe in 1993.
Under the banner of ‘The True Story of The Cheekiest Heist Ever’ it also includes an exclusive interview with Peter Bunn, Maher’s Securicor partner on the day of the theft who was left standing outside Lloyds Bank in Hamilton Road after the money disappeared.
Mr Bulstrode said: “It was one of Suffolk’s most notorious crimes and created massive interest. Everyone wanted to know what happened to him. No-one every forgot about it.
“This was an opportunity to tell the full story. Maher was regarded as a bit of a hero in Felixstowe, but people’s idea of his life after the theft wasn’t the same as the reality.”
Published by John Blake, Fast Eddie goes on sale on January 6.
