Inspectors who visited Felixstowe Community Hospital could find no fault with the work of the nursing and support team – and, unusually, gave no recommendation for any improvements.

Health bosses are delighted with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, which said the hospital in Constable Road met every high standard of safety and quality.

Inspectors also spoke to patients who said the hospital was “very good” and highlighted the “wonderful” staff who helped them in their treatment and recovery as well as keeping them well informed on their progress.

The review found patients can be assured their privacy and dignity is respected and will receive effective, safe and appropriate care, receive nutritious food, with regular fluids offered to ensure adequate hydration, and measures are in place to protect vulnerable patients.

It also found there are enough suitably qualified and skilled staff to provide care, 100 per cent compliance with good hand hygiene practice, and that patients’ comments are listened to.

Pamela Chappell, chief nurse and head of quality and governance, said: “These results are a testament to the hard work and skill of all the hospital’s clinical and support staff, including modern matron Fran Hicks and lead minor injuries unit nurse, Lynn Lowdell, who leads a dedicated team of health care professionals.

“Patients can be confident they will receive good treatment locally and a level of care that will help them recover quickly.”

David McAllister, chairman of the League of Friends of Felixstowe Community Hospital, said: “We are delighted that our community hospital has received recognition of the very high quality levels of care and accommodation.

“We will continue to work hard to raise as much money as we possibly can in order to continue to support the efforts of the staff and the comfort of the patients.”

The CQC, the independent regulator of health and social care services, carried out the review in November at the hospital, which has 16 in-patient beds, a minor injuries unit and a variety of out-patient clinics.

  • Hmm well I can disagree as my treatment there was less than perfect. Left with permanent damage thanks to their 'treatment'. Thanks Felixstowe General for nothing!
