People are being asked to submit ideas for events and activities as part of a project to revitalise Felixstowe Carnival and move it on to the resort’s seafront.
The bid to move the event next year from Langer Park has already received overwhelming support from the public.
Now organisers are hoping people will also let them know what events they would like to see – and to join in the fun by helping to organise different activ ities.
Felixstowe Carnival chairman Nick Barber said: “It would be great to have some fresh ideas, some different events.
“What we would really like is for enthusiastic organisations or groups of people in the town to come forward and suggest an event or activity and say they would be prepared to bring that to the party by taking responsibility for it and organising it.
“For example, a club might say a tug of war would be great – leave it to us, we’ll do it.
“Or someone might like to take on putting on a raft race on the sea, or a volleyball competition at the net in Sea Road.
“It would be wonderful to have more of the community on board, getting involved in the carnival for the benefit of the whole town.
“If we can make it bigger and better, then even more people will come and enjoy our resort.”
The carnival will take place on July 26 and July 27.
Organisers want to move it to the seafront and to combine it with an air show in a bid to attract more people.
For decades the traditional home of the event has been Langer Park, but while the procession attracts around 20,000 spectators, the two-day park entertainment draws only a few of these.
Undercliff Road West from the Spa Pavilion to Convalescent Hill would be closed to traffic and the funfair, music stages, stalls and sideshows would be held in the street with free admission for all.
Half of the costs involved in staging the entertainment at Langer Park – such as hiring fencing, lighting, generators, ticket booths – would be removed.
