A Yorkshire Terrier puppy which went missing after a car crash has been found safe and well near Felixstowe.

Eight-month-old Yorkshire Terrier Holly has been found after going missing following a collision on the A14 near Felixstowe.Eight-month-old Yorkshire Terrier Holly has been found after going missing following a collision on the A14 near Felixstowe.

Terence and Geraldine Manning from Hadleigh had appealed for help to find eight-month-old Holly last Wednesday.

Their car had been involved in a collision with a lorry near Dock Spur roundabout on the A14 after which Holly escaped, still wearing her collar and lead.

A search was carried out for the dog but to no avail.

However at around 7.30am on Saturday morning Mr and Mrs Manning’s son Glenn had a call from Suffolk police saying there had been a sighting of Holly near where the crash happened.

He said no sooner had he sat down to post a message on Facebook asking for people to keep a look out than the good news came through.

“I got call from my mother saying she’d been found,” Glenn said.

He explained she had been seen by Irene and Tetley Fountain from Kirton who had been driving towards Felixstowe.

“They noticed her running down the road. They slowed their car down and stayed behind her and when they pulled over she ran up to Irene.

“She still had her collar and lead on. She was damp and tired but otherwise OK.”

Glenn said they owed “massive thanks” to Mr and Mrs Fountain, adding: “She could easily have been run over at that stage. They didn’t just find her, they saved her life.”

Mr Fountain said he first saw Holly in the middle of the dual carriageway dodging vehicles.

“I noticed what was happening and there were lorries coming up the side of me so I went into the middle of the road with my hazard lights on so the lorries couldn’t get past.

“I held the traffic up and then followed her and the lorries followed me until she wore herself out and she went over to the side of the road.

“I stopped the traffic and my wife got out and went over and picked her up.

“We rang the number of the collar and returned her to her owners.

“We’re please it’s had a happy outcome. We’re pet lovers so I know how hard it would be to lose one.”

  • Crabby! I recently found some football boots in the dogging area of Levington (I was just passing through). Could they be yours? Perhaps we can get our mugs on the internet too!

  • Wow, another anonymous post from a local comedian. I have just picked myself up off the floor and now taking myself to Hospital to have my ribs wired back, after that side splitting quip by Crabstick. football boots lost, and no help to find them, oh, the pain the pain. Seriously Crabstick, like Spike last week, you fail to identify what local news is all about. Many on this site, the social media sites, and radio listeners have been following this story, and in the thousands. Your loss of football boots has probably done a local team a favour, as not only will they no longer suffer the poor quality of your game, but also the agonising poor humour in the changing room. From Glenn Manning A grateful son to Terry & Geraldine, and thankful that many good people stepped up to the bar, to reunite my parents with Holly. Not news in your eyes, or spikes, but the minority will never win the day over the majority.

  • I'm really pleased that the owners luckily got their beloved pet back in one piece, however i do hope that they and other pet owners understand the importance of either a doggy seat belt or in this instance bearing in bind the dogs size a cage or pet transporter that can be secured to the vehicles seats.

  • Serious Crabstick! News isn't always about crime, accidents, fires or death. Sometimes it's nice to see a 'good news' story once in a while. If this has got the main story for the day then that means nothing 'bad' has happened which can only be a positive. As Dahila said, I'm sure there are loads of people glad this puppy has been found safe and well. Grow a heart!

  • It's so great to see such a pointless and boring story get the main news story in Felixstowe. I lost a pair of football boots a few weeks a go. Nobody cares about that!
